Essential Road Trip Packing List

Embarking on a road trip can be an exciting adventure, but it requires careful planning and preparation. Here’s a comprehensive Essential Road Trip Packing List for the essentials you should pack for your next road trip.

1. Sanitizing Products:

In the era of COVID-19, it’s crucial to carry sanitizing products like Clorox Wipes and Lysol to ensure your surroundings, especially in hotels and Air B&B’s, are clean and safe. Although there’s other types you can buy I like to go with brands I trust.

2. First Aid Kit:

Accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. A first aid kit is a must-have for those unexpected moments.

3. Nail Clippers:

These can come in handy in the most unexpected situations. Don’t forget to pack them! Just a small manicure set will work.

4. Toilet Paper:

When nature calls in the middle of nowhere, you’ll be glad you packed some extra rolls. I came across these when searching for good travel items. I love this! You will not have to worry about the toilet paper get ruined, this will keep it nice and together.

5. Napkins/Diaper Wipes:

These are essential for quick clean-ups on the go. Always make sure you have preferably both on hand during those long drives! Fast food places often don’t give out napkins or not enough. I really like having wipes in my car at all times, you never know when a mess will happen.

6. Cooler and Snack Bag:

Keep your drinks and snacks fresh and easily accessible during your journey. This will be cheaper than buying drinks at every gas station. We always carry either a cooler or a cooler bag.

7. Cash and Cards:

While most places accept cards, it’s wise to carry extra cash. Remember to store your money in different locations for safety. I would suggest buying a couple of card holders and keep them in different bags plus one in your car.

Be ready for a quick dip, whether it’s a beautiful natural spot or the hotel pool. You can even get matching sets for your family!

9. Jackets & Coats:

Weather can be unpredictable, especially in the mountains. Layer up to stay comfortable. In one single road trip we went from one of the highest points in the continental U.S. (Pike’s Peak) to the lowest point (Death Valley). It was so cold on the mountain and super HOT in Death Valley. We were glad we brought our hats and jackets.

10. Reusable Water Bottle:

Staying hydrated is crucial. Carry a reusable water bottle to refill on the go. I suggest getting one that has a handle and/or clip on it.

11. Backpack for Hiking:

A compact backpack can hold water, a jacket, hat, and other essentials for your hiking adventures. Although you can get smaller bags to hold your items, I really like these bags as they are comfortable to wear and have lots of storage. Plus, you can use them when you fly too (as they should fit under the seat).

12. Dash Cam:

Capture memorable moments of your trip or record unexpected incidents for safety. Dash cams come in all prices but you don’t necessarily need the most expensive one. Here is one that doesn’t cost too much and still gives you 4k quality:

13. Portable Car Jumper:

A flat tire or dead battery shouldn’t leave you stranded. A portable car jumper that can also air up your tires is a lifesaver. This is probably one of the most important items you should carry on your trips. Especially if you’re gearing up for a long road trip.

14. Extra Power Banks:

Keep your phones charged. Even without service, you should still be able to call for help. We like to get the power banks that have a solar charger on it, in case you find yourself without power. This is one we have bought before.

A handy tool for unexpected situations. I would suggest getting a hand crank flashlight, therefore you don’t have to worry about batteries.
